Future Grid Simulator Beta Launch: Exclusive Access for GSC Members only
Today, the Global Solar Council is pleased to provide members with exclusive early access to the Future Grid Simulator (GridSim) — the first digital tool developed by GSC and its partners to help demonstrate the role of solar in future energy systems.
As a GSC member, you are among the very first users to explore this innovative platform, test its capabilities, and help shape its future development. Your feedback will be instrumental in refining the tool and ensuring it meets the needs of solar advocates, policymakers, grid operators, and industry stakeholders around the world.
What is the Future Grid Simulator?
The Future Grid Simulator is an interactive modelling platform designed to help users better understand, communicate, and accelerate the role of solar in national electricity systems.
Developed by experts in grid operations, power systems, and energy forecasting, the tool enables users to explore how increased solar deployment could influence electricity generation, demand patterns, carbon emissions, and overall grid performance.
The platform is highly customisable and can be tailored to regional and national contexts. Users can model the impact of multiple variables on solar deployment and assess how solar energy can help countries respond to changing demand patterns, electrification trends, and future energy needs.
Why Did We Build It?
As solar deployment continues to accelerate globally, decision-makers need access to reliable, evidence-based insights that demonstrate the value of solar within modern electricity systems.
The Future Grid Simulator was developed to support GSC members in their engagement with key stakeholders, including policymakers, regulators, utilities, and grid operators. By providing credible modelling and scenario analysis, the platform helps users build stronger advocacy cases for solar and storage while supporting informed decision-making.
With the Future Grid Simulator, members can:
- Model the impact of solar deployment on national electricity systems
- Explore different demand and generation scenarios
- Visualise potential carbon emissions reductions
- Demonstrate how solar supports electrification and demand growth
- Generate downloadable reports for advocacy and policy engagement
- Strengthen stakeholder discussions with data-driven insights
Why a Beta Launch?
The Future Grid Simulator is launching initially as a beta version because we believe the best tools are built collaboratively.
We are providing exclusive access to GSC member associations before a wider public release so that the platform can be refined, optimised, and tailored based on real-world user experience.
The current beta includes a limited number of countries and functionalities. However, we have ambitious plans to expand both the platform’s geographic coverage and analytical capabilities in the coming months.
Our vision is to create a truly global resource that helps accelerate solar deployment and supports the energy transition worldwide.
Access the Future Grid Simulator
The Future Grid Simulator Beta is available exclusively to GSC members from 18 June.
To access the platform: Reach out to Lennart van Walsum [email protected] or Rita Ren [email protected] for more information on GSC membership.
This is only the beginning.
Following the beta phase and member consultation process, GSC plans to launch an enhanced version of the Future Grid Simulator with expanded functionality, broader country coverage, and additional modelling capabilities. Together, we can build a tool that strengthens solar advocacy, supports evidence-based policymaking, and accelerates the deployment of solar and storage worldwide.
